6 Thin Scuba Wetsuits for Warm-Water Packing Lists
Thin full suits can add coverage without the bulk of thicker neoprene. They are worth comparing for warm-water trips where sun, abrasion and repeated immersion still influence what you wear. These six options range from 1 mm to 3 mm; they are not interchangeable with a thermal system for colder water.

How we chose and ordered these picks
Full 3 mm options lead, then progressively thinner constructions. The order prioritises coverage and seams before minimum packing bulk.
List position is an editorial recommendation, not a review score. The selection uses the documented features and limitations below. We have not personally tested this equipment. Verified publisher scores, where available, are shown separately and link to their evidence. Our catalogue is still being researched; inclusion does not mean a product has a completed scored review.

The 3 × 3 GBS is a full suit with 3 mm neoprene throughout, glued and blind-stitched seams, and internal tape at main stress areas. Stretch panels cover the shoulders, arms and sides. O’Three also adds a floating collar, internal zipper guard and reinforced knee and seat areas.
Thickness
3 mm throughout
Seams
Glued and blind stitched; stress areas taped
Entry
YKK zipper with smooth-skin internal guard
Cuts
Men’s and women’s
Knees
PU-laminated reinforcement
What to check
Compared with a shortie, the full suit provides more coverage but needs a careful check of leg length and shoulder reach. Men’s and women’s cuts are listed separately. A manufacturer-hosted field account praises its knee protection and construction, but it is promotional evidence rather than an independent numeric assessment.

The women’s Velvet is a 3 mm full suit with a diagonal front zipper running from the waist towards the shoulder. Its double-lined Ultrastretch neoprene and flatlock seams are intended for flexible warm-water coverage. Hydrosealing wrist and ankle cuffs and an uninterrupted front neck section are its main distinctions from a conventional back-zip suit.

What to check
Try the zipper reach and shoulder movement on the women’s cut before buying. Flatlock seams are not the same construction as glued and blind-stitched seams, and cuffs cannot guarantee warmth when the torso fit is loose. A published scored article found during research covers Velvet Man, so its rating is not transferred to this women’s version.

The W20 is a 2.5 mm wetsuit made from stretchy Aquatex neoprene. Waterproof positions it for warmer water, where a light full suit can provide coverage without the bulk of its 5 mm models. Its appeal is straightforward: a flexible, close-fitting suit for divers who do not need a thick exposure layer for the planned conditions.

What to check
A thin suit leaves less thermal margin on repeated dives, and a loose fit can allow water exchange even in warm water. Test the shoulders and neck while reaching forward and overhead. Do not treat the thickness as a guarantee of comfort throughout a liveaboard trip; dive duration and personal cold tolerance still matter.

NEOSKIN is Waterproof’s thin, full-length neoprene suit. The current official page specifies 1.5 mm material, a back zipper, flatlock seams and thumb and foot loops. Its seam-free crotch and stretchy construction target easy movement and dressing rather than the insulation of a much thicker suit.

What to check
Several retailer listings found during research describe a 1 mm NEOSKIN. Confirm the thickness and generation supplied rather than treating those older customer reviews as tests of the current 1.5 mm listing. Wind- and splash-resistant fabric does not make the complete suit a drysuit.

The men’s Fast 1 mm is the thin, full-length member of the Fast range. Double-lined neoprene, pre-shaped legs and reinforcement at the knees provide coverage with less bulk than the 5 and 7 mm versions. Its rear YKK zipper has an internal barrier intended to limit water entry.

What to check
One millimetre offers little insulation compared with thicker Fast suits, so choose it for genuinely warm conditions rather than borrowing temperature claims from other thicknesses. Some retailer reviews attached to the 1 mm listing explicitly discuss a 7 mm suit. Those mixed-product stars are excluded, and the manufacturer’s double-lined description takes precedence over conflicting open-cell retailer labels.

The women’s Fast 1 mm provides full-length coverage in a thin double-lined neoprene suit. Its pre-shaped leg panels, elastic lining and reinforced knees are intended to preserve movement without the bulk of thicker Fast models. The back zipper and shaped neck closure include barriers intended to reduce flushing.

What to check
Check the women’s chart and actual torso fit rather than translating a size from the men’s suit. A 1 mm suit leaves limited thermal margin for long or repeated dives. Retail listings inconsistently describe an open-cell interior, while Cressi specifies lining on both sides; we use the manufacturer’s construction description.

Before you buy
Try the suit in swimming and reaching positions.
Check flatlock versus glued-and-blindstitched construction.
Use actual local conditions and planned dive duration rather than a destination’s tropical label.
Take two or three suitable models from this list into a comparison, then remove any that fail your fit or compatibility checks. A lower position here can still be the better purchase for your setup. Check the product page for source dates and unresolved details before placing an order.
Is a 1 mm suit the same as a rash guard?
No. A thin neoprene suit and a fabric rash garment differ in material, buoyancy and insulation. Check the actual construction instead of treating all thin layers alike.
