The story behind the name.
Shearwater traces its beginnings to founder Bruce Partridge in 2004. Its background in dive computing makes the differences between display formats, supported modes and transmitter options more useful buying questions than a simple good–better–best ladder. Official source ↗
Read the range in two directions
Peregrine and Tern give shoppers a choice between a rectangular display and a compact round format. The TX versions add tank-pressure integration and a compass to those respective families. Teric belongs in the discussion when its additional capabilities match a defined requirement. Start by deciding which information you can read comfortably; then compare functions. A smaller computer is not automatically easier to use, and a larger one is not automatically too bulky.
Treat the transmitter as a separate purchase decision
Air integration means a compatible transmitter can send pressure information to a supported computer. It does not mean a transmitter is present in every retail box. Obtain an itemised quote showing the computer, transmitter model, any fitting work and the accessories supplied. If your current diving does not call for the extra capability, the standard models remain worth comparing.
Ownership before checkout
Ask a local dealer about warranty handling, battery service, compatible straps and charging accessories. Review the manual for the exact model and firmware. Buying a computer because you might one day pursue a particular course can make sense, but only after weighing the likelihood of that plan against the interface you will use on every dive today.
Product facts are sourced in the profiles below. Buying suggestions are our editorial interpretation, not findings from personal testing. Catalogue coverage is a researched selection, not a claim to contain every current product.
Products with a clearer picture.

Perdix 3
The Perdix 3 updates Shearwater’s rectangular computer with a 2.4-inch AMOLED display, titanium bezel and piezoelectric buttons. It supports up to four wireless pressure transmitters and vibration alerts. The larger screen is the most obvious reason to compare it directly with the Perdix 2 rather than treating both generations as the same product.
Specifications & review evidence →
Petrel 3
The Petrel 3 is a large rectangular computer with a 2.6-inch AMOLED screen, titanium bezel and replaceable AA battery. It supports vibration alerts and up to four wireless pressure transmitters. Its screen size makes it worth comparing with the smaller-display Perdix models when wrist readability is the main buying priority.
Specifications & review evidence →
Perdix 2
The Perdix 2 is a rectangular dive computer with a 2.2-inch colour display, titanium bezel and piezoelectric buttons. A user-replaceable AA battery, vibration alerts and support for four wireless pressure transmitters are its practical distinguishing features. This is the Perdix 2, not the original Perdix or the newer AMOLED Perdix 3.

Teric - US Navy
Teric - US Navy is a specialist watch-format computer with a 1.39-inch AMOLED display, sapphire window and wireless charging. Specifications & review evidence →
Petrel 3 Fischer
Petrel 3 Fischer combines a 2.6-inch AMOLED screen with a Fischer port for external oxygen-sensor monitoring. Shearwater lists monitoring of one to three cells, open-circuit and rebreather modes, vibration alerts and support for four optional wireless pressure transmitters. A replaceable AA battery supports field servicing.

Perdix 2 - US Navy
Perdix 2 - US Navy is a specialist rectangular computer using Navy modes and Thalmann tables. It combines a 2.2-inch backlit colour display with wireless pressure monitoring, a field-replaceable AA battery and PIN-protected configuration. Its stealth functions include an anti-reflective display and blackout control.

Petrel 3 Monitor (4-Pin)
Petrel 3 Monitor (4-Pin) is the analogue four-pin external-monitoring version of Shearwater’s large-screen computer.
