How we calculate published review scores.

Our brand battles also have clearly labelled editorial scores: our own buying opinions. Those stay separate from the publisher ratings explained here.

Convert the original rating

Original overall rating ÷ maximum rating × 100. A 4/5 review becomes 80/100; 8.6/10 becomes 86/100. A zero is displayed as 1 to keep the scale between 1 and 100. We do not turn awards, positive language or category ratings into an overall score.

The five stars show the same score divided by 20: 93/100 is 4.65/5 stars. Partial stars preserve the score; they are not a separate customer rating.

Give publishers equal weight

Use one eligible review per publisher group, taking the most recently checked source (source ID breaks ties). Average the unrounded converted scores, then round once to the nearest whole number. Two scores of 100 and 86 produce 93/100.

Show the strength of the evidence

One rated publisher is labelled “Single source”, not consensus. Unrated articles can add context but do not change the score. Manufacturer claims, retailer customer stars and community posts are excluded from this published-review score.

Keep the limits visible

Scores reflect reviewers’ different criteria and review dates. They are not a safety certification or proof of suitability for your diving. A score of 100 means the source awarded its maximum, not that a product is perfect. We link to each review, record model matching and disclose known affiliate relationships. We have not personally tested these products.

17 products are scored and 97 have only unscored review evidence. The remaining 2281 have not completed review research; a missing score does not mean a bad product or that no reviews exist.
