PRODUCT OVERVIEW

About this gear

The AKUA is a blunt-tip river and utility knife with straight and serrated edges plus a line cutter. Its three-inch blade is titanium-coated stainless steel, rather than solid titanium. An acetal sheath offers several mounting arrangements.

Consider before buying

Paddling Magazine’s Jeff Jackson found the grip comfortable and the sheath easy to release, but reported that the serrations shredded rope rather than slicing cleanly. Those are river-use findings, not a saltwater-diving durability test. Check access and retention on your own equipment before relying on the mounting arrangement.

Our take

Consider AKUA for mixed utility work where a blunt tip and several cutting surfaces are useful. The published test gives reasons to compare a dedicated rescue cutter if cutting performance is your main priority. It provides useful independent observations, but no numeric overall rating to convert into stars.
