PRODUCT OVERVIEW

About this gear

EDF1 is a compact electronic distress light with several brightness modes and SOS signalling. It weighs 155 g and uses Ocean Signal’s replaceable LB10F battery pack.

Consider before buying

Practical Boat Owner found its light slightly more intense than the compared Odeo flare, but its small controls and multiple modes were harder to operate in darkness. The manufacturer’s range claim is not a guaranteed sighting distance.

Our take

Choose it as a surface visual-signalling aid after checking controls, battery availability and the boat’s broader safety equipment. EDF2 adds a different multi-colour and infrared approach. The published night test provides useful observations but no numeric overall rating.
