How we calculate scores →About this gear
safeSEA S100 is a radar search-and-rescue transponder for survival-craft equipment. When interrogated by an X-band radar, it transmits a response that helps the radar operator locate it. This is a different locating method from an AIS SART.
Consider before buying
The supplied bracket and optional telescopic pole are different purchase items. S100 does not send a satellite distress alert and cannot replace an EPIRB for that role. Its usefulness depends on compatible radar being within reception range.
Our take
Choose S100 when a radar SART is what your vessel’s equipment plan requires. Compare Ocean Signal’s S200 if the specified requirement is AIS SART. Select the technology first, then check mounting and battery-replacement arrangements.
