PRODUCT OVERVIEW

About this gear

A legacy personal rescue strobe with a large sliding switch, lashing loops and a base that lets it stand upright. The Waterbug version adds water activation to manual operation.

Consider before buying

Mounting matters: Practical Boat Owner found that a lifejacket and the wearer could obscure part of the flash. Its short strobe pulse was also harder to spot than the longer flashes from newer LEDs.

Our take

Useful to understand if you already own one, but for a new surface signalling kit we would compare current LED rescue lights first. A visible light helps nearby rescuers find you; it does not send a distress message.

No numeric rating

The test explicitly includes Waterbug. Mounting on a lifejacket restricted visibility, and short strobe flashes were harder to spot than longer LED flashes.
