Consider before buying
Category I and II versions use different release arrangements. The manufacturer specifies at least 48 hours operation at −20°C and battery replacement six years from manufacture or after use. Those original figures do not establish the condition of used stock.
Our take
For an existing boat, start with a service and bracket inspection. For a new installation we would compare current EPIRBs before buying an older PRO: battery replacement and bracket work can erase a second-hand saving.
