How we calculate scores →About this gear
The Onyx II combines a balanced first stage with a dry environmental seal and a compact second stage with an inhalation adjustment. Five low-pressure and two high-pressure ports provide routing options, while the 30-inch braided hose and aluminium heat sink are part of the specified package. DIN and yoke versions are offered.
Consider before buying
The adjustment knob is the practical distinction to assess against the simpler Envoy II. Check its reach with your gloves and confirm servicing support for the selected connection and configuration. An environmental seal does not establish the approved temperature range or gas compatibility by itself.
Our take
The Onyx II is a sensible comparison with the F8 when both have good local service support. DIVER’s June 2021 test praised its comfort and hose routing while paired with an Envoy octopus. ScubaLab’s earlier test found a sensitive purge and some inhalation noise. Try the controls and mouthpiece before paying more for another model; neither report supplies a numerical overall grade.
