How we calculate scores →About this gear
The Recon is a negatively buoyant rubber fin with a 25-degree angle between blade and foot pocket. Zeagle uses compression-moulded natural rubber, reinforced side rails and adjustable stainless heel hardware. Its substantial construction suits buyers comparing traditional technical-style fins rather than the lightest luggage options.
Consider before buying
The foot pocket needs to fit your actual wetsuit or drysuit boots. Negative buoyancy changes how the fins feel as part of your whole setup; it is not automatically beneficial. Check spring-strap adjustment and the effort needed to move the blade before committing to a larger, heavier fin.
Our take
Consider the Recon for power and a roomy boot fit, with weight as the main tradeoff. DIVEIN found it consistently capable across its pool tests, while ScubaLab’s 2018 team found the heavy blade less manoeuvrable. Those differing impressions are a reason to try the fin with your boots and kicking style. Its negative buoyancy needs to suit your trim, and the bulk is less attractive for light travel.
