How we calculate scores →About this gear
The Abyss 20000 is a large white video light with a claimed 20000-lumen continuous flood and 25000-lumen LED burst. Its 120° beam, CRI 90 and 5600K colour temperature target wide-angle camera work. White, burst and SOS are the listed modes; it does not offer the Hydra range’s colour channels.
Consider before buying
The 1400 g land weight and 565 g underwater weight include the battery. Two lights therefore add 2.8 kg before arms, clamps and chargers. Kraken lists 40 minutes at maximum flood, which needs to fit the intended recording schedule.
Our take
Buy this for a camera system that can benefit from high-output white illumination and accommodate the mounting load. It is excessive for someone mainly lighting small close subjects with a compact rig. Bluewater’s buying guide identifies the white-only approach as its appeal, but provides no numeric overall grade. The Spectrum 18000 trades some output for a lighter package and selectable colour temperatures; the Abyss 10000 reduces mass further. More lumens still require sensible light placement and short subject distances.
